Reference: Goldstein- The Socket Bayonet in the British Army 1687-1783- figure 125
Ca. 1710-40. This very rare type features a squared shank. The blade ricasso is rectangular in cross section for the first 6 inches. Then it changes to double edged and fullerless for an additional 7 inches. The socket has a 3 step slot cut for bottom stud. These have been found at numerous British and British-American archeological sites. This one is in very nice relic condition.
