This is a highly unusual item. It started off life as a US M1917 made by Remington. You can tell by the fuller shape and the chamfer on the pommel. All markings have been removed from the ricasso by grinding. The muzzle ring has been cut off and replaced with a larger size mounted lower to fit the No 1 Enfield. The scabbard is also highly unusual and modified. It has the rare modification of two rivets on the outside edges of the chape. Also the US style belt hook has been removed. A belt hanger added by taking the belt look of a British P1939 frog and attaching it to the chape. This attachement is done in a similar fashion to the first pattern US scabbards but the mounting block is made of two pieces of steel.
