This is the very rare fifth pattern scabbard. In 1901 they modified 378 of the previous pattern scabbards to include the M1899 wire hangers utilized in the standard Krag scabbards. A further 100 newly made scabbards were made in 1901 to this new pattern. This was the final pattern scabbard and was used with the 1900 dated bayonets.
